We
know about best practices as they apply to
the children.
We are less likely to think about
best practices as they apply to our own work
environment.
Yet the quality of our jobs has
direct impact on the quality of the program
we are able to offer to our children.
DVAEYC has been highlighting this
connection through our annual Early
Childhood Program BEST PLACE TO WORK awards.
Three winners of these awards from
previous years have provided the data we
offer on best practices in compensation.
Since all early
childhood programs face severe financial
constraints, these best practices may offer
a real challenge.
The most successful programs tap a
mix of public dollars (i.e. Keystone STARS),
private foundations, corporate supporters,
parent energy, community assets, and
creative innovation.
Publicizing the
true cost of care through the Market Rate Survey, and advocating for
increased public investment in the field can
also help us reach these best practices.
