Walk a Mile in the Shoes of a Child Care
Worker
|
First, tell your story. What is it
really like for you to be in early
childhood education? What do you
love about it? What makes it hard?
What more do you need to do your job
well? Decorate an old shoe with
symbols of your story. Then invite
others to walk a mile in your shoes.
Invite your colleagues to decorate
their own shoes. Make a display in
the lobby of your center. Or plan to
visit legislators with your shoe and
story.
The decorated shoe of a child care
worker at the Early Childhood
Conference carried this message. "
If you walked a mile in my shoes,
you would find children and books
because I love to read with
children… You would find my
playdough recipe because I love to
encourage children to use their
senses and imagination… Also you
would find a Worthy Wage pin because
I believe that joining together
makes a difference in the lives of
child care workers… "Angry" is how I
feel when I see that our country
does not value children enough to
invest in their early care and
education… "Hope" means I do believe
that things will change!" |
